| Smart-scape is a new way to manage and display digital
media. It is a system that brings together information
and images in a dynamic graphic environment, changing
it’s focus over time so that the mix of information
and the presentation style is always tuned to the interests
of your audience. Smartscape becomes an integral part
of the architecture of the space
It has a personality and changes its character over
daily and seasonal cycles. In the morning it may be
lively and news based, by afternoon it is in a playful
mood and in the evening it is out for entertainment.
Behind the scenes the system is driven by a ‘mood
engine’ that responds to changing conditions in
the space, such as occupancy, or to time triggers. Whereas
conventional content management systems rely on complicated
and difficult to use show control queuing systems which
often repeat the same sequence of information over and
over again, Smart-scape uses artificial intelligence
to select information from a variety of media sources
and compose them into a non-repeating sequence. Different
content groups are given a priority rating which displays
a given content element for a strictly controlled length
of time during the running of a mood. Any number of
moods can be set up and, as the system moves from one
to another, the balance of content and styling of the
display changes.
Smartscape delivers relevant, responsive display sequences
without demanding a heavy commitment of management resources
to keep it fresh and current. The system checks and
selects through a seasonal, monthly and daily calendar
giving preference to information associated with a particular
event or time of year.
The system’s performance-monitoring software
allows the on-screen exposure for any element to be
metered so that the installation can generate targeted
advertising revenue.
Smartscape has been developed by At
large (London), architects and
desgners taking interactive information into new areas
of public space,
brand environments and retail. and Visuality, a new
media and software
development agency based in Manchester and London.
